Destinee Byers

Of Counsel

Destinee Byers joined Davis, Burch & Abrams as an intern in 2017 and as an associate attorney in 2019. Originally from Jackson, Tennessee, Destinee graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Law, Justice, and Society from Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. She graduated cum laude with her law degree from Regent University School of Law.

Prior to joining Davis, Burch & Abrams, Destinee worked as a legal intern for the Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and as a student worker for the Institute for Conflict Management. She also worked as the Marketing Manager for Pieology Pizzeria where she assisted in managing marketing for all of its southeastern franchises. At Regent University School of Law, she won awards in appellate advocacy and negotiation, worked for the Center for Global Justice assisting in legal research and writing for international nonprofits, spent a summer in Peru helping an organization that provided legal aid related to human trafficking and property dispute issues, and worked as a Managing Editor for the Journal of Global Justice and Public Policy. Destinee is currently a member of the Pro Bono Committee for the Young Lawyers Association of the Virginia State Bar and a member of Thrive Young Professionals Group in Hampton Roads. She enjoys spending time with with her husband and beagle, Jessie, home renovation projects, hiking, traveling, and visiting local coffee shops.

  • In May of 2022, Destinee obtained summary judgment in the amount of $57,222.33 for a breach of contract claim related to a company’s failure to pay its past due invoices. In this judgment, in addition to the amount owed on the invoices, Destinee was also able to secure late fees and her client’s attorney’s fees.
  • In June of 2022, Destinee negotiated a $90,000 settlement for her clients who were not paid by their prime contractor on a government project.
  • In October 2021, Destinee obtained a $256,650 jury verdict on a breach of employment agreement claim.  The award was dollar-for-dollar which was requested by the jury. Virginia Lawyers Weekly reported the story on March 7, 2022 here.
  • In 2020, Destinee successfully defended against a Trademark Trial and Appeal Board action opposing her client’s trademark application. The next year, her clients were able to receive their trademark registration.
